The problem: If MySQL databases are hosted remote on webservers, they are often located behind firewalls, and therefore blocked from the access through standard database administration tools. Even if you want to administrate these databases with web applications written in PHP or Perl it is often not easy to do a simple MySQL backup of your databases because of runtime limitations for scripts on the server. The solution: Remote DB Editor for MySQL (formerly known as MyWitch) and the DumpTimer for MySQL solve these problems by using a small PHP script, which has to be copied on the webserver and which encapsulates and encrypts the access to the MySQL database.
